Mogadishu (SONNA) — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre chaired a high-level meeting reviewing the final preparations for the upcoming local government elections set to take place across the country.
The meeting which was attended by ministers directly involved in the electoral process, heard a detailed briefing from the National Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission’s Chairperson, Abdi Hakim Ahmed Hassan who reported that preparations are well advanced and that all essential services required to conduct the elections have been completed.
Prime Minister Hamza commended the Commission and the participating ministries for their efforts, emphasizing the government’s commitment under the DanQaran agenda to implementing a one-person, one-vote electoral system. He noted that the process will begin with the local council elections in the Benadir Region.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to advancing democratic governance and ensuring that citizens can directly choose their local representatives for the first time in decades.
