MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development (MoPIED) convened a high-level strategic meeting with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Mogadishu on Thursday. The session focused on strengthening the partnership between the two entities to accelerate the implementation of Somalia’s National Transformation Plan (NTP) and ensuring that all United Nations development programs are strictly aligned with the Federal Government’s national priorities.
Chaired by the Ministry’s Director General, Mr. Mohamed Shire, the dialogue centered on the mechanisms required to deliver tangible development results. The officials discussed the critical need for robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track progress accurately. The Director General emphasized that accountability, transparency, and the utilization of reliable data are essential for ensuring the effectiveness of development interventions across the country.
The meeting highlighted the strategic role of the UNDP in supporting Somalia’s institutional growth. Both parties agreed to prioritize capacity building for state institutions and to foster sustainable development initiatives grounded in good governance. The Ministry reiterated its directive that international partners must operate within the scope of Somalia’s defined economic and social goals to maximize the impact of aid and investment.
