Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The elite Gaashaan Commandos of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) played a decisive role in ending last night’s terrorist attack by Al-Shabaab militants on the Godka Jilicow detention and investigation center in Mogadishu.
The terrorists used a vehicle loaded with explosives to breach the facility before opening random gunfire targeting civilians, inmates, and security officers without distinction.
Responding swiftly, the Gaashaan forces neutralized all seven attackers within minutes and secured the entire area. The commandos also rescued 85 prisoners and several civilians who had been trapped inside the compound during the assault.
The successful counter-operation concluded without any casualties among the Gaashaan unit, marking another demonstration of their exceptional skill, discipline, and commitment to defending the Somali people against terrorism.
NISA praised the Gaashaan Commandos for their professionalism and bravery, reaffirming their role as the shield protecting Somalia from Al-Shabaab’s acts of terror.
