MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Chairman of the National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC), Mr. Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, officially inaugurated a specialized training workshop in Mogadishu today for nearly 90 Somali journalists. The program is designed to enhance media conduct and ensure ethical reporting standards during the critical election period.
Organized in strategic collaboration with the National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ), the training aims to equip media professionals with the necessary tools for objective and responsible reporting. The Secretary General of NUSOJ, Mr. Omar Faruk Osman, who also serves on the Media Conduct Committee for elections, delivered a keynote address highlighting the significance of the initiative. He pledged that Somali journalists are committed to covering the upcoming elections in the Benadir region with integrity, accuracy, and impartiality.
In his address to the participants, Chairman Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan reminded the media professionals of their vital responsibility to uphold high ethical standards on election day. He assured the attendees that the Electoral Commission is fully prepared to facilitate their work and support them in discharging their professional duties effectively to ensure the public is well-informed.
The primary objective of this workshop is to ensure that the participating journalists, all of whom are tasked with covering the Local Council elections scheduled for December 25 in the Benadir region, possess the requisite knowledge and skills to maintain professional conduct. This initiative is a key component of the broader effort to ensure a transparent, credible, and peaceful electoral process in the capital.
