MoHADM Minister Lunches Early Warning System Training for State DRM staff

Mogadishu (SONNA):The overall aim of the training package was to increase awareness of the participants on disaster
risk reduction and early warning systems to the sub national government staff to empower the
actors to support their organizations in developing disaster resilient communities in their respective
jurisdictions.
Speaking Sunday, 21 February at the launch of the training, Minister Khadjia noted that the
institutional capacity building on Early Warning systems is one of the priority arias for the
Government of Somalia.

In her Opening remarks, Hon Khadija Said, “Today Somalia faces enormous humanitarian
challenges form different fronts and to name some is COVID19 pandemic, a projected dry
condition in parts of the country and locust invasions. This is on top of an already pre-existing
humanitarian conditions, therefore we strive to change the way we do business by building our
early detection, early warning and early response capabilities while empowering and assisting our
counterpart institutions of the Federal Members States.” Said, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs
and Disaster Management Hon. Khadija Mohamed Dirie.
Among the key achievements the Ministry made over the past few months include the following:
the review of the national disaster risk management policy by aligning it with Sendai Framework,
development of the national humanitarian strategy and the establishment of National Multi-hazard
early warning center (NMHEWC).

The Ministry now focuses on the capacities of the disaster management personal at the national
and state level.
The Ministry of Humanitarian affairs and Disaster Management of Federal Government opened
Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center which is expected to help prepare for and respond to disasters.
“Somalia Government, with the support its esteemed partners, invests to build systems that can
enhance the resilience of our communities at risk. This investment will reduce the costs of response
and recovery. In order to achieve to this end, and find a durable solutions and resilient Somalia,
we are building the disaster risk management capacities at state level,” said, the Minster of
Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management Khadija Mohamed Dirie.
The raining was launched under the Theme, “Strengthening Somalia’s capability to provide
climate information and services to enhance the disaster resilient development and adaptation to
climate change”.
