Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), has received the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia and Head of the UN Transitional Support Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS), Ambassador James Swan, at the Mogadishu Municipality headquarters.
Mayor Muungaab briefed Ambassador Swan on the Banadir Administration and Mogadishu Municipality’s efforts in urban development and reconstruction, strengthening security, improving public services such as healthcare and education, raising public awareness, and mobilising communities in preparation for the upcoming one-person, one-vote elections in the capital and nationwide.
He commended the UN office for its support to state-building and development in Somalia, particularly through major projects in Mogadishu, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening effective cooperation for the successful implementation of development programmes.
Ambassador Swan thanked the Mayor for the warm welcome and update on ongoing activities, pledging continued UN support for the capital’s priority projects.
