Mogadishu, Somalia (SONNA) – With Somalia’s significant Independence and Unity Days fast approaching, a crucial meeting was held today in Mogadishu to finalize preparations for the 65th anniversary celebrations. The gathering portrayed the government’s commitment to commemorating these historic milestones both domestically and internationally.

The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Independence and Unity Days Organizing Committee, Hon. Ali Yusuf Ali Hoosh, who concurrently serves as the Minister of Internal Affairs, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia. High-ranking officials from various government ministries and agencies involved in the preparations were in attendance, highlighting the broad, collaborative effort.

Discussions during the session focused intently on the profound importance of these national days, particularly the 65th anniversary of June 26th (Independence of the Northern Regions) and July 1st (Independence of the Southern Regions and Unification Day). Participants deliberated on the detailed plans for their commemoration, including how the events will be celebrated across Somalia and by Somali communities residing abroad. Emphasis was placed on accelerating all preparatory activities to ensure a grand and memorable celebration.

Among the prominent attendees were the Minister of State for the Prime Minister’s Office, the Minister of State for Education, the Minister of State for Security, and the Commander of the Somali Police Force, alongside various senior officers and directors from relevant ministries and agencies. Their collective presence signifies the multi-faceted approach being taken to ensure the celebrations are not only vibrant but also secure and well-organized.

The upcoming Independence and Unity Days serve as powerful reminders of Somalia’s journey to sovereignty and nationhood. The government’s proactive efforts in organizing these celebrations aim to foster a spirit of unity, patriotism, and national pride among all Somali citizens, reflecting on the sacrifices made for freedom and the progress achieved in rebuilding the nation.
