MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, Mohamed Adan Mohamed, chaired a crucial meeting to review the accountability of international organizations operating within the country. The meeting brought together representatives from the Somali NGO Consortium and the Ministry’s own Monitoring & Evaluation Department (MED).
The core focus of the discussion was a comprehensive review of the work of international non-governmental organizations and their alignment with the federal government’s development priorities. During the session, the results from the previous phases of the evaluation were presented, highlighting areas of progress and identifying opportunities for improved coordination. The Deputy Minister also officially announced the launch of the fourth phase of data collection, a key step in the ongoing evaluation process.
Deputy Minister Mohamed stressed that it is imperative for every organization operating in Somalia to clearly demonstrate its impact and ensure its activities are fully integrated with the government’s national plans. He emphasized that accountability and transparency are the foundational pillars upon which public trust and a strong government-citizen relationship are built.
The meeting also served as a platform for strategic planning and collaboration. Participants delved into discussions concerning the preparations for the second Monitoring & Evaluation Conference, a significant event aimed at strengthening oversight mechanisms. Furthermore, they deliberated on the establishment of the Somalia Evaluation Society and the development of a 2026 work plan, all designed to reinforce efficient cooperation and sustainable accountability.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to accelerate the frequency of coordination meetings to a quarterly basis. This decision aims to foster more effective cooperation and promote lasting development. The Deputy Minister reiterated the Ministry’s unwavering resolve to reinforce accountability, transparency, and the successful implementation of sustainable development goals throughout the nation.
