Mogadishu (SONNA) — The Minister of Ports and Marine Transport of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Director of Somali Ship Register Limited, Mr. Çağdaş Oykun Saltaș, to establish a national ship registry that will allow vessels to fly the Somali flag. The initiative marks a major step toward modernizing and developing Somalia’s maritime sector.

Minister Nur emphasized that the agreement will create new opportunities for investment, job creation, and enhancing the reputation of the Somali flag, leveraging expertise from international partners.

He described the MoU as a strategic move by the Federal Government to strengthen Somalia’s maritime administration and position the country among global competitors in shipping and maritime activities.
