Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, H.E. Daud Aweis Jama, on Wednesday welcomed to his office the newly appointed Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia and Head of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), H.E. El Hadji Ibrahima Diene.
The two officials held in-depth discussions on Somalia’s political, security, and stabilization priorities, with a focus on enhancing cooperation in public awareness campaigns, countering terrorism, and combating the spread of misinformation.
Minister Daud Aweis highlighted the Federal Government’s recent military successes against terrorist groups, noting that the battlefield victories have brought renewed hope for Somalia’s complete liberation from terrorism. He praised the African Union for its steadfast partnership, particularly its role in supporting peacebuilding and anti-terrorism efforts.
For his part, the AU Special Representative commended Somalia’s progress and reaffirmed the AU’s commitment to intensifying its support for the Somali people’s aspirations for peace, development, and prosperity.
The meeting was attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Information, Mr. Abdullahi Hayir Duale; the Deputy Special Representative of the African Union to Somalia, Mr. Mukhtar Osman Kariye; the AUSSOM Force Commander, General Samuel Kavuma; and other senior officials.
