Mogadishu, SONNA – The Governor of Banadir Regional Administration and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), today received the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, His Excellency Alper Aktas, at Mogadishu City Hall during an honorary visit.
Dr. Muungaab welcomed the Ambassador with fraternal protocol and emphasized the longstanding importance of Turkey–Somalia relations in supporting the reconstruction, security, and development of the capital city.
He underscored Turkey’s pivotal role since 2011 in humanitarian assistance, as well as the continuation of a strategic partnership that includes infrastructure reconstruction, military training, counter-terrorism, social service development, and major projects such as the establishment of a satellite base.
The Mayor pledged that the Banadir Regional Administration remains committed to facilitating Turkish investment and development initiatives in Mogadishu. He further expressed the municipality’s interest in building cooperation and exchanging experiences with major Turkish cities to enhance essential services such as sanitation, road networks, sewage systems, firefighting, and emergency response.
Ambassador Alper Aktas reaffirmed his country’s steadfast and unconditional support for Somalia’s state-building, peace-building, and development efforts. He also expressed Turkey’s commitment to assisting Somalia in advancing its democratic agenda, particularly preparations for the One Person, One Vote elections in Mogadishu and across the regions.
The meeting reinforced the strong partnership between Somalia and Turkey, highlighting shared priorities in development, governance, and the well-being of Mogadishu’s residents.
