Mogadishu, SONNA – The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), today laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the June 26 road in Hodan district. The road, which connects the Shaqaalaha and Sheikh Ali Suufi junctions, had been severely damaged by recent heavy rains in the capital.
The launch marks a significant step in Mogadishu’s ongoing infrastructure development and urban renewal efforts. Mayor Muungaab announced that the project will be fully funded by the Banadir regional development fund—a result of recent administrative and financial reforms that have improved revenue generation.
The June 26 road serves as a vital link in Hodan district, facilitating daily movement for residents and supporting local commerce. Its reconstruction is expected to ease transportation, improve drainage, and enhance public safety.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Deputy Governor of Banadir Region, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Diiriye (Yabooh), Deputy Governor for General Affairs, Mr. Hassan Mohamed Jimale, Governor of Hodan District, Mr. Ali Fahle, representatives from the implementing firm Docol Company, traditional elders, and other local officials.
Community leaders welcomed the initiative, highlighting its importance in addressing the effects of seasonal flooding and demonstrating the government’s responsiveness to citizen needs.
The project is part of a broader urban revitalization campaign aimed at rebuilding key infrastructure across Mogadishu to support social services, mobility, and resilience in the face of climate-related challenges.
