London, (SONNA) – Manchester City skipper Ilkay Gundogan on Saturday rallied his team to 2023 Football Association (FA) Cup glory.
Ilkay scored twice in the final against Manchester United to lead his team to a 2-1 victory at London’s Wembley Stadium.
Gundogan drew first blood early on with his screamer in the 12th second of the game.
After Bruno Fernandes leveled the score in the 33rd minute with a penalty goal, given by a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision, Ilkay took center stage once more.
The German-born midfielder with Turkish roots made good use of the assist of Kevin De Bruyne and scored once more with a left-footed long strike in the 51st minute.
With this victory, the Citizens stayed on track for a possible “Famous Treble” – winning the domestic title, domestic cup, and European cup in the same season.
Next Saturday they will take on Italian Serie A club Inter Milan in the 2023 UEFA Champions League final at Istanbul Ataturk Olympic Stadium to complete the treble.
Man City captured the cup for the seventh time as well as achieved FA Cup glory for the first time in four seasons.
