Mogadishu(SONNA)-Minister of Information of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Osman Abukar Dubbe on Tuesday held key meeting with editors and the new Director of the Somalia’s official news Agency, SONNA on ways to promote country’s national strategic development.
The editors briefed the Minister on the daily routine, the opportunities and challenges including the Covid-19 during the meeting at the agency in the Ministry.
SONNA Director, Abdirahman Ahmed Hussein stated that they re-organized the structure of the agency, and re-designed the website that feeds news in three languages, Somali, Arabic and English Services.
Mr. Hussein requested the Minister to support the news agency in repairing the headquarter, promoting the staff, and providing necessary materials for the functions of the agency at moment.
The Information Minister, Osman Abukar Dubbe praised the Director and his team for speeding up the work, urging them to maintain SONNA as first source of information.
” My Inspection at SONNA and meeting to you aims at encouraging your important service, urge you to redouble your efforts in gathering and disseminating accurate and breaking news through out the country to the world and restore all relations with foreign news agencies”, Mr. Dubbe said.
Somali National News Agency, SONNA was established in 1964, and has an active member of the News Union Organizations in Arab, African, and International News Agencies, despite the absence of the area for about one decade only due to the collapse of central Government in 1991.
