Djibouti, SONNA – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has officially launched the IGAD Media Awards 2025, calling on journalists and media professionals to submit their work under the theme “Storytelling for Climate Action: For a Secure, Resilient, and Stable Region.”
The awards aim to recognize and celebrate outstanding media contributions that effectively communicate the challenges and impacts of climate change within the IGAD region, as well as highlight innovative solutions and the importance of regional cooperation in building resilience and stability.
According to the announcement, the award ceremony is expected to take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, later in 2025. The initiative shows the critical role of media in raising public awareness, informing policy discussions, and fostering collective action on climate change, which is a significant challenge facing the East African region.
By focusing on “Storytelling for Climate Action,” IGAD seeks to encourage compelling narratives that can inspire communities, policymakers, and stakeholders to address climate-related issues and contribute to a more secure and stable future for the region. Further details regarding submission guidelines and categories are expected to be announced by IGAD.
