MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Gor-Gor Special Forces of the Somali National Army (SNA), operating in close coordination with local community defense forces, successfully executed a targeted security operation in the Number 50 area of the Lower Shabelle region. The mission resulted in the disruption of a significant terror plot orchestrated by Al-Shabaab militants.
Intelligence reports indicated that a group of approximately 10 operatives was attempting to transport explosive devices toward the coastal areas, with the specific intent of targeting National Army units and disrupting ongoing stabilization efforts. Acting on this credible information, the joint forces engaged the militants in a brief confrontation, effectively neutralizing the threat.
Following the engagement, the security forces seized 14 landmines, marking one of the largest single recoveries of explosive devices in the area. In addition to the explosives, the troops confiscated two motorcycles that the militants were using for logistics and transport.
This operation demonstrates the enhanced capability of the Somali National Army to act on intelligence and dismantle the logistical networks of terror groups. The SNA remains steadfast in its commitment to restoring stability, ensuring the safety of the civilian population, and eliminating the threat posed by Al-Shabaab and their use of improvised explosive devices.
