Dhuusamareeb, SONNA – The Speaker of the Galmudug State Parliament, Dr. Mohamed Nur Ga’al, hosted members of the Somali Media Council at his residence in Dhuusamareeb on Monday evening. The meeting focused on strengthening media development and capacity-building initiatives for journalists in Galmudug and across Somalia.
The delegation from the Somali Media Council included Hinda Jama, Head of Training, and Abdiqani Abdullahi, Senior Advisor to the Council, who were in Dhuusamareeb for official business. During the meeting, Dr. Ga’al praised the Somali Media Council for its ongoing efforts to support and enhance the country’s media sector. He emphasized the need for journalists, particularly those in Galmudug, to improve their skills, understand their rights, and avoid the pitfalls of unethical journalism.
Dr. Ga’al also highlighted the importance of the Somali Media Council establishing a presence in Galmudug to play a more active role in building the capacity of local journalists. He stressed that such efforts would help foster a stronger relationship between the media and the government, ensuring a more collaborative and productive environment.
Hassan Abdirahman, Director of the Training Department at the Galmudug Ministry of Information, also spoke at the meeting. He expressed gratitude to the Somali Media Council for organizing training programs for Galmudug journalists, including a recent three-day workshop that concluded earlier in the day. The training, held in Dhuusamareeb, provided valuable skills and knowledge to journalists from across the region.
In their remarks, Hinda Jama and Abdiqani Abdullahi thanked Dr. Ga’al for the invitation and reiterated the Council’s commitment to supporting Somali journalists. They outlined the Council’s efforts to enhance media skills and development, noting that they would work closely with media stakeholders in Galmudug to strengthen ties between journalists and the state government.
The Somali Media Council has been actively working to improve the quality of journalism in Somalia and raise awareness among journalists about their rights and responsibilities. The recent training in Dhuusamareeb is part of a broader initiative to empower journalists and promote ethical reporting practices across the country.
