Foreign Ministry Refutes False Claims About Somali Delegation to ILO Conference, Urges Media Responsibility

Mogadishu, SONNA – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has firmly dismissed as baseless the recent allegations circulating on certain media outlets and social media platforms concerning the Somali delegation to the 113th Session of the International Labour Conference held in Geneva. The Ministry confirmed that all members of the official delegation have returned to the country in full accordance with their mandate and responsibilities.

In an official statement, the Ministry categorically rejected what it described as “unfounded claims” that seek to distort the truth and cast doubt on the integrity of Somalia’s participation in the important international event.

“It is both disappointing and deeply regrettable that some media outlets and individuals on social media have chosen to spread misinformation without adhering to the principles of verification or professional due diligence,” the statement read.

“Such actions not only undermine the credibility of national institutions, but also erode public trust and detract from the significant contributions made by the Somali delegation in advancing the rights and welfare of workers.”

The Somali delegation, which took part in high-level discussions in Geneva, played an active and constructive role in shaping global labor policies, reaffirming Somalia’s commitment to improving labor conditions and protecting workers’ rights both at home and internationally.

The Ministry also issued a strong call for all media professionals, commentators, and social media users to maintain high standards of journalistic integrity and responsible communication. It warned against the dangers of speculative reporting, which can damage national interests and undermine public confidence.

“The national interest must never be compromised by speculative reporting or partisan agendas,” the Ministry added, reiterating its commitment to transparency, accountability, and principled diplomacy.

The Ministry concluded by affirming its continued support for Somali representatives on the global stage and its dedication to ensuring that Somalia’s voice remains credible, constructive, and respected in international forums.
