First phase of the fight against Al-Shabaab nearly complete: President Hassan

Dhusamareb, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is in Galmudug State has attended the 17th anniversary of the Galmudug and sent his congratulations to the people of the Galmudug State who are in and outside Somalia, he also said that the first phase of the fight against the Al-Shabaab terrorists is almost complete with the help of the Somali National Army and the local forces.

The President said that the first phase of the fight against the Al-Shabaab terrorists started in the Galmudug and Hirshabelle States, and they have been liberated with the efforts of the locals including the people of Galmudug, but there are remnants that still remaining in both states which the forces are in progress to eliminate them.

“There may be some areas in Hirshabelle and Galmudug States where the Khawarij still hide but the local residents are ready to eliminate them and liberate their homes”, President Hassan said.

President Mohamud also said that the Somali National Army and the local forces are headed to those areas where the terrorist militants are still hiding in both States.

“There will be a day that we will meet at a ceremony like this one in the States that we are heading to liberate which are Jubbaland and Southwest States. We will meet at their capital cities once they eliminate the enemy together with the Somali Army”, he added.

The President said that Galmudug has achieved momentous successes including the Presidential Palace that has the most appealing looks with an enormous space, unlike the last time he was here in his last term.

“The one thing that still continues is the reconciliation between our people because it is the basis of all kinds of stability like security, political stability, financial stability, and more because reconciliation and agreement are the basis of building a nation that is united with an anti-conflict and conflict resolution structures”, President Hassan stated.

The President also praised the Cabinet led by PM Hamza Abdi Barre for their work and how they delivered the bills that needed to be approved to the Houses of the People and applauded the Parliament for approving the most important bills including the Debt Relief Bill, the lifting of sanctions bill and more bills that are crucial to the state building of this country.
