Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing

Mogadishu, Wednesday, 22nd November, 2023

1- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud returned to the country after attending the international conference on preventing food shortages in London.

2- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who gave a speech at the international conference on preventing food shortages and disasters, said that Somalia can be at the center of international efforts to eradicate hunger, ensure energy and agricultural crops.

3- The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who held a meeting with the British Prime Minister, Mr. Rishi Sunak, presented how Somalia prioritizes emergency aid projects to be diverted to development, so that the Somali people can get lasting benefits.

4- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud chaired the meeting of the National Security Committee, which discussed the range of issues including security of the capital, and the upcoming international security meeting to be held in New York next month.

5- The British government is donating a hundred million dollars to Somalia to finance development projects, economic infrastructure and agricultural development in Somalia.

6- Somalia and Burundi issued a joint communique after a visit to Bujumbura by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

7- The Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, has visited Dolow District in Gedo whish was badly hit the devastating floods in the country. t of Gedo Region.

8- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre said that the Federal Government of Somalia will build the bridges destroyed by the floods in the country.

9- The Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, paid an encouraging visit to the capital stabilization force in the Hiil-Weyne camp located between Mogadishu and Balcad.

10- Somalia’s National Teachers’s Day has been celebrated in many parts of the country.

11- The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama chaired the meeting of the National Committee for the relief of people affected by the floods.

12- Somalia’s Minister of Finance, Mr. Bihi Iman Cige, chaired the international investment conference between Somalia and British investors, especially in the field of agricultural and fishing development.

13- Somalia’s Minister of Finance, Mr. Bihi Iman Cige, attended a meeting of the National Committee on Anti-Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorist Organizations.

14- The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Mr. Daud Aweys Jama and the Minister of Planning and Economic Development Mohamud Abdirahman have jointly launched the Somali Tourism and Hospitality Report in Mogadishu.

15- The Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development of Somalia, Mohamud Abdirahman, said that the plan for Somalia to join the East African Economic Cooperation is nearing completion.

16- The Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy of Somalia Mr. Ahmed Hassan Adan held a meeting with some of the Fishermen’s Cooperatives of Banadir Region and the Federal Member States of the country.

17- The Minister of Interior, Federal and Reconciliation of Somalia Mr. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi held talks with the head of the African Union Mission in Somalia Amb. Mohamed El-Amine Souef in Mogadishu.

18- The Minister of Communications and Technology of Somalia, Mr. Jama Khalif, together with the General Manager of the National Telecommunications Agency, Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, are participating in the World Radio Communications Conference (WRC-23) which opened in Dubai.

19- The Court of Appeal of Banadir Region is conducting the 2nd hearing of a corruption case against officials of the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank.

20- The Banadir Regional Court continues with the hearing of graft case against government officials.

21- The Armed Forces Court executed Abdisalan Ali Ahmed, who had previously killed Abdullahi Ali Huday.

22- The Puntland State Criminal Investigation Team, which is part of the Somali Police Force, has foiled a plot by the Daesh group against the Somali people in Bosaso.

23- The Gor-Gor commando force and the local army have carried out an operation in the west of Harar Dheere killing a leader from Al Shabab Kharijites group and a militiaman who was with him.

24- An operation carried out by the National Army in the Makineye village of Bakool Region killed 3 of the Kharijites group Al Shabab.

25- Somalia’s State Minister of Health, Maryan Mohamed Hussein, held an emergency meeting with hospital associations and the medical community to coordinate efforts to deal with the victims of the floods.

26- The National Armed Forces Court has held a hearing of terrorism case against 10 suspects.

27- The flooding of the Shabelle River caused damage to the hospital in Beledweyne, Hiran region.

28- Families stranded in some neighborhoods of Baladweyne city are facing a difficult situation after the floods that occurred there.

29- The Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has sent planes carrying humanitarian aid to Baidoa and Bardheere for the victims of the floods.

30- The Jubbaland police force arrested two suspects who were driving a car with 142 kilos of narcotics hidden in it.

31- Hundreds of local heroes participating in the war against the Kharijites Al Shabab were presented in the city of Bacaad Weyne in the Mudug region, ready to participate in the fight against the terror group of Al Shabab.

32- Somalia expected to officially join the East African Community in the end of this week.
