The Chinese embassy hosted a farewell ceremony for the Somali athletes delegation participating in the 31st Summer World University Games in Chengdu, China on Tuesday. The Director-General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Abdihakim Warsame Diriye, and the Chinese Ambassador, Fei Shengchao, saw the athletes off at the airport after the ceremony.
In attendance were Director General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Chinese Ambassador Fei Shengchao, three Somali delegates, Ahmed Wehlie, Managing Director of the Somali Youth League, Asha Adan Dahir, Deputy Head of Delegation and Doctor from Benadier Hospital, and Nasra Abukar Ali, Athlete.
The delegation will represent Somalia in the upcoming games and showcase their talents on an international stage. The ceremony was a touching send-off for the athletes as they embark on their journey to Chengdu.
During the ceremony, Director-General Abdihakim Warsame Diriye praised the strong friendship between China and Somalia and expressed his hope that the visit of the Somali delegation will further strengthen sports and youth exchanges between the two countries. He encouraged Somali athletes to give their best performance and make their country proud.
Ambassador Fei Shengchao also spoke about the deep-rooted friendship between China and Somalia and warmly welcomed the delegation heading for Chengdu. He expressed his best wishes for their success in Chengdu 2023 FISU World University Games.
