Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Xasan Maxamed Xuseen (Muungaab), led a ceremony distributing curriculum books to students at the Boondheere Orphan Girls School, emphasizing the importance of providing Somali children, particularly orphans, with quality education and opportunities for a better life.
In his speech, Dr. Muungaab highlighted the role of education in supporting orphans, stressing the administration’s commitment to ensuring they receive care, guidance, and a brighter future.
“Back in 2014, when I visited this school with the First Lady, Marwo Qamar, there were nearly 90 orphaned girls. Today, the school serves over a thousand students. This growth reflects the efforts of Somali society and government support, with many alumni now contributing meaningfully to the community,” he said.
Dr. Muungaab also announced that the school’s funding allocation has been doubled: “When I took office, the school operated on $2,000. We have increased it to $4,000. While it is still not enough, we are reviewing and planning to ensure orphaned children receive quality education and a better life.”
The Mayor emphasized that the administration’s services are guided by Islamic principles and the direction of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, pledging continued support for vulnerable communities.
Officials from various levels of Banadir Region and the Mogadishu local government attended the event.
