Mogadishu, SONNA — The Governor of the Banadir Regional Administration and Mayor of Mogadishu, H.E. Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the construction of Abdiqasim Road in Hodan District, a key priority project aimed at strengthening economic infrastructure and enhancing the urban landscape of the capital.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Muungaab explained that the main obstacle delaying the construction of Abdiqasim Road was the illegal encroachment of houses and buildings on the road’s right of way, which had prevented the implementation of the project. To address this challenge, he ordered the removal of all structures encroaching on the road, granting affected occupants a one-week period to clear the area.
The Governor emphasized that the project forms part of broader efforts by the Banadir Regional Administration to modernize Mogadishu’s infrastructure and improve mobility, economic activity, and public services across the city.
During the ceremony, Dr. Muungaab also delivered a strong message on the importance of improving cleanliness and public order in the capital. He encouraged the continuation of the ongoing citywide cleanliness campaign and praised the active participation and growing public awareness, particularly among young people using social media platforms such as TikTok to promote civic responsibility.
As part of strengthened sanitation efforts, the Governor announced the formation of new sanitation monitoring teams that will continuously assess cleanliness conditions in Mogadishu’s districts, ensure compliance with regulations, and enforce accountability measures.
He further stated that the criteria governing sanitation companies will be reviewed to evaluate the quality of services provided and their adherence to contractual obligations, with the aim of ensuring efficient, reliable, and consistent sanitation services throughout the city.
In addition, Governor Muungaab revealed that a new law on urban cleanliness is expected to be signed in the near future. The legislation will establish clear procedures and responsibilities, and reinforce measures to maintain cleanliness and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the capital.
The Banadir Regional Administration reaffirmed that the construction of Abdiqasim Road, alongside the strengthened cleanliness initiatives, is part of a unified vision to build a clean, orderly, and modern Mogadishu equipped with infrastructure that meets the aspirations of its residents and supports the city’s future development.
