President Hassan Attends National Flag-Raising Ceremony Marking Somalia’s Independence Day

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Tuesday night attended the national flag-raising ceremony commemorating 1 July, marking the independence of Somalia’s southern regions and the historic union of the northern and southern regions.
The President congratulated the Somali people on the occasion, describing it as a milestone in the nation’s history and unity. He noted that 1 July symbolizes the long struggle and sacrifices made by Somali heroes in the pursuit of independence and statehood.
Units of the Somali National Army, carrying out their national duty, ceremonially raised the national flag at exactly midnight, honoring the moment 66 years ago when Somalia’s flag was first hoisted in the capital, Mogadishu.
President Hassan Sheikh emphasized the importance of safeguarding national unity, solidarity, and state-building efforts, stressing that today’s generation bears the responsibility of advancing the vision and aspirations of the founders of the Somali nation.
