Federal Government Urges Urgent Ceasefire as Violence Escalates in Hiiraan’s Jalalaqsi District
MOGADISHU, Somalia(SONNA) — The Federal Government of Somalia has issued an urgent call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Jalalaqsi district of the Hiiraan region following two days of deadly inter-clan clashes.
Expressing grave concern and sorrow, the Ministry strongly condemned the targeted attacks, arson, and looting, describing them as violations of both Islamic Sharia and traditional Somali values. The hostilities have resulted in significant casualties, property destruction, and widespread civilian displacement.
In a direct bid to de-escalate the situation, a high-level intervention team led by Hirshabelle regional authority Yusuf Ahmed Hagar, alongside members of the Federal Parliament, has arrived in the district to enforce a ceasefire and broker an end to the conflict.
The Ministry also issued a stern warning against digital incitement, stating that legal action will be taken against individuals using social media to fuel community tensions. Local elders, religious scholars, and civil society leaders are urged to immediately support the administration's efforts to secure a lasting peaceful solution.
