Al-Shabaab militants lose last strong-hold in middle Shabelle region

Mogadishu(SONNA)-Al-Shabaab militants lost control of the last strong-hold, Runirgod district in middle Shabelle region after Somali National Army conducted operation  early on Thursday morning.

“We share good news to the public and it is that Somali National Army has fully taken control of Runirgod district in Middle Shabelle region at around 6:00 am local time, the forces pursue the terrorists and make clearance operation in the town at moment”, Abdullahi Ali Anod, Spokesman of the SNA said in press conference in Mogadishu.

Mr. Anod said that the terrorists suffered heavy loss during the operation in areas around Runirgod district, telling that 150 Al-Shabaab militants including five foreigners killed and 15 others.

The first batch of Somali soldiers trained in Eritrea returned back to the country yesterday and others are expected to come following days. Arrival of these forces will be a backlash to Al-Shabaab militants according to officials.
