MOGADISHU, (SONNA) – The State Minister of Communications and Technology, Hon. Ahmed Diiriye, officially opened a knowledge exchange workshop on climate change and technological solutions, aimed at strengthening the capacity of government institutions to respond to climate challenges through modern technology.

The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Communications and Technology and the Ministry of Climate Change, and was attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Communications and Technology, departmental directors, advisors, and staff from both ministries.

The workshop focused on innovative technological approaches to address the impacts of climate change, with particular attention to climate forecasting, natural resource management, and the establishment of sustainable systems to prevent and mitigate floods, droughts, and other environmental risks.

Participants engaged in in-depth discussions and analyses, identifying both opportunities and challenges faced by government institutions and presenting practical recommendations to improve technology-based climate response mechanisms.

In his remarks, State Minister Ahmed Diiriye underscored the importance of advancing climate change strategies through the use of modern technology to minimize the effects of environmental challenges and to achieve sustainable national development. He also emphasized that collaboration among government institutions and international partners is crucial to ensuring progress in addressing climate change.

The workshop was part of ongoing efforts to enhance the technical and knowledge capacity of staff from both ministries, strengthen climate management skills, and encourage innovation and environmentally sustainable technologies. The insights and recommendations from the workshop are expected to inform future national climate and technology policies.

The Federal Government of Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology and modern services in the fight against climate change, viewing them as vital pillars of the country’s sustainable development agenda. The government further stressed the need for public institutions to bolster their capacity to manage climate challenges effectively, ensuring Somali citizens benefit from innovative and technology-driven environmental solutions.
