Istanbul, Turkey – The Commander of the Somali Navy and Coastal Defense Forces, General Abduwahab Abdullahi Omar, participated in the prestigious International Defense and Military Technology Fair (IDEF 2025) held in Istanbul, Turkey. The visit underscores Somalia’s ongoing efforts to enhance its maritime security capabilities and strengthen international partnerships in defense.
During his attendance, General Omar held a significant meeting with Ahmet Akyol, the head of Aselsan, a leading Turkish high-tech defense company. The discussions centered on bolstering the bilateral relations between Somalia and Turkey, with a particular focus on the development and modernization of the Somali Navy.
The objective of these discussions is to foster a robust and capable Somali naval force, equipped to effectively defend Somalia’s extensive coastline and territorial waters. This engagement at IDEF 2025 highlights Somalia’s commitment to investing in its national security infrastructure and collaborating with key international partners to achieve its strategic defense goals.
