Mogadishu (SONNA) – In a brief ceremony held at the Port of Mogadishu, the Minister of State for Defense, Mr. Omar Ali Abdi, along with other high-ranking officials, received four high-speed patrol boats from the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia. The event was attended by the Commander of the Armed Forces, the Deputy Commander of the Somali National Army, the Commander of the Navy, and other officers.
The Turkish Ambassador highlighted that these boats will significantly enhance coastal security, noting that Turkey’s support for Somalia, which began in 2011, continues to grow stronger. The Minister of State for Defense expressed gratitude to the Turkish government, emphasizing that the boats will play a crucial role in combating piracy and securing Somalia’s maritime resources.
During the ceremony, certificates were awarded to specially trained Coast Guardsmen who will operate the new patrol boats, marking a significant step forward in strengthening Somalia’s naval capabilities.
