Mogadishu (SONNA): The Commissioner of the Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mohamud Ma’allin Abdulle, recently convened an important meeting with the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Mr. Alper Aktas. The meeting also included a delegation from the Turkish Disaster Management Agency (AFAD) and the Turkish Red Cross.
The primary focus of the discussions was the meticulous planning for the reception and docking of an aid ship from Turkey, which is set to arrive at the port of Mogadishu on the 18th of this month. This initiative highlights the collaborative efforts between SoDMA and AFAD to enhance emergency response capabilities by integrating the expertise and skills of SoDMA staff.
Moreover, the meeting addressed the critical need for AFAD’s assistance in constructing public meat storage facilities across various regions in Somalia. This initiative aims to protect the health and safety of the community, particularly during significant events. The discussions also included plans for a visit by the head of AFAD to Somalia, further solidifying the partnership between the two agencies.
