Brussels, SONNA – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Brussels, Belgium, to participate in the Global Gateway Forum, a two-day event hosted by the European Union (EU) to promote sustainable and trusted connections across the world.
The forum, which will start on Wednesday afternoon brings together representatives of governments from the EU and from around the world, as well as the private sector, civil society, financing institutions, and international organizations. The aim is to encourage public and private investment in quality infrastructure, health, education, and research systems that work for people and the planet.
President Mohamud is expected to address the forum on Wednesday on critical global issues, including the urgent need for investments in infrastructure, the transition to green energy, and education. He will also highlight Somalia’s progress in security, governance, and development, as well as its challenges and opportunities.
The president is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes the minister of foreign affairs. He will also hold bilateral meetings with EU officials and other leaders on the sidelines of the forum.
The Global Gateway is the EU’s strategy to boost smart, clean, and secure links in digital, energy, and transport sectors and to strengthen health, education, and research systems across the world. It is also aligned with the UN’s Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the Paris Agreement on climate change.
