Mogadishu(SONNA)- this morning near the city of Barawe, soldiers of the Somali National Army and Ugandan Peoples Defense Force defeated an al-Shabaab suicide unit that was attempting to reach an AMISOM base in the area.
Somali and Ugandan Soldiers successfully ambushed the al-Shabaab unit, and they successfully destroyed two vehicles loaded with explosives that intended to be used in a suicide attack on the base.
No Ugandan or Somali troops were killed or wounded during the operation.
This successful operation highlights the effective partnership between AMISOM
and the Somali National Army in their co-operations in the fight against terrorism,
protecting all the Somali people.
It also demonstrates that al-Shabaab, who claim
religion justifies their acts of violence, really only has one intent which is to sow division and fear.
The holy month of Ramadan is about making peace with those who have committed wrongs, strengthening ties with family and community, and leaving behind bad habits.
With the increasing capabilities of the Somali National Army and the active joint operations that have allowed for the liberation of dozens of towns, the days of al-Shabaab’s tyranny will soon be eradicated. END
