Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Charge d’affaires of the United States of America to Somalia, Mr. Timothy Trenkle who attended the High-Level Stabilization and Recovery meeting on Thursday addressed the attendees and discussed many issues related to the stabilization and recovery of liberated areas in Somalia.

Mr. Trenkle said that Somalia needs an inclusive government that will last for the future of the country and changes the lives of the people.

“We have proud to be partners in this initial rather stabilization with over 100 activities and 26 districts, but we know we need to take it to the next level”, Timothy added.

The meeting which was focusing on Stabilization and Recovery brought together members from the Somali government, UN personnel, and international partners to discuss ways to deliver aid and government services to the recently liberated areas as well as the basic need of the locals in those areas.

Mr. Timothy says that even though the US assists the Somali army, the hallmark of the military campaign is to see a Somali-led military, and “the Stabilization also needs to be Somali-led”, he added.

The United Nations has taken its part in the assistance of the Somali people, and the current Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Somalia (UNSOM) said “The UN stands by and ready to support Somalia”, Anita KikiGbeho.

“We internally coordinate between our military, diplomatic, and development partners, we also recognize the important roles of the UN and we welcome the creation of new stabilization and new recovery areas cell, we think that can really play an important role in Supporting the government but also help coordinate international partners and make sure we are all in the same page”, Timothy said.

The ultimate task is yours, the unity between the Federal government, the line ministries and between the member states, as that works better that will make a positive change, we know its not easy but this plan I think makes a positive step forward and how we can all work together to coordinate”, he added.

The Charge d’affaires of the US to Somalia commended the efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia and the hard work they intend to put in the work ahead.
