Mogadishu (SONNA):-Southwest State Parliament on Wednesday elected Ambassador Dr. Ali Said Fiqi as the new speaker after the State’s second parliamentary election held in Baidoa town, SONNA reported.
Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mohamed Abdinur announced the result, saying 93 members attended the election process, 83 of them gave votes to Ali Said Fiqi, two others voted for the other candidate, Mohamed Abdirashid while 8 votes turned invalid.
” I announce that Ali Said Fiqi is the Speaker of the Southwest State in the coming four years term”, Mr. Abdinur said.
The new elected speaker is a Somali scientist specializing in toxicology and a leading researcher in his field. Publishing over 200 scientific papers and lectured around the globe, receiving several scientific awards for different organizations
Dr Fiqi served as the Somali Ambassador to Belgium,Netherlands ,Luxembourg, France and EU Between 2013 and 2016.
In 2017, He served as an interim chief of staff for the president during the transition period.
