MOGADISHU, SONNA – The Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia has unanimously passed a resolution on Tuesday, rejecting the agreement signed between Somalia’s Northern regions (Somaliland) and Ethiopia in Addis Ababa on Monday.
The resolution, which was adopted by both the House of the People and the Upper House, stated that the agreement was “null and void” and violated the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Somalia. The resolution also affirmed that Somalia would protect its land and water resources from any foreign interference.
The Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor, who chaired the joint session of the Parliament, said that the agreement was against the international law, the African Union, the IGAD, the Arab League and the United Nations regulations. He said that the Parliament would defend the rights and interests of the Somali people and nation.
