Mogadishu, SONNA – The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, under the leadership of Minister Hassan Moalim Mohamud, has announced that it is closely monitoring the legal and humanitarian conditions of Somali prisoners in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Among these prisoners are individuals facing death sentences and others serving lengthy prison terms.
In a statement issued today, the Ministry emphasized its commitment to addressing the plight of Somali citizens detained in Saudi Arabia. As the legal representative of these individuals, the Ministry is actively engaging with Saudi authorities to ensure that the prisoners receive adequate legal support and representation.
The Ministry is also working to facilitate the transfer of Somali prisoners to complete their sentences in Somalia, in line with the Riyadh Agreement on International Judicial Cooperation. This agreement, which includes member states of the Arab League such as Saudi Arabia and Somalia, provides a framework for judicial collaboration and the transfer of prisoners between participating countries.
Minister Hassan Moalim Mohamud highlighted the government’s dedication to protecting the rights of Somali citizens abroad and ensuring their fair treatment under the law. He noted that ongoing discussions with Saudi counterparts aim to resolve these cases in a manner that upholds justice while considering humanitarian principles.
