Fight against extremist groups continues in Somalia, as the military and the local forces push the Al-Shabaab terrorists further into the bushes and their eradication from Somalia has taken several turns as the fight progresses.

The governor of Hiiraan region, Mr. Cali Jayte, has made a promise during the course of the fight to eradicate these groups from the Hiiraan region. He promised that whoever kills a member of the extremist group will be rewarded.

A few days after the governor’s promise, soldiers from the national army carried out a planned operation in Moqokori district, killing two leaders of the extremist group.

Federal parliamentarians and officials from the Hirshabelle administration gathered in the Mahaas district for a special ceremony in which the governor of Hiraan, Ali Jeyte, honored the military unit that conducted the operation by presenting them with a cash reward of $10,000.

Mohamed Maalin, a resident of El-baraf in the Middle Shabeelle region, joined the fight against extremist groups after hearing the promise of a financial reward for killing any member of the group. This promise was made by the governor of Hiiraan region.

Mohamed Maalin said, “I joined the fight against Al-Shabaab on Thursday, and on Monday I carried out the operation killing the financial leader of the extremist group.”

the Khawaarij Al-Shabaab are facing a difficult time as they come to the end of their existence. The group is grappling with both military and survival challenges and has started to surrender to government forces at the front lines of the battle.
