Mogadishu, SONNA – The Minister of Finance of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Bihi Imaan Ige, held a significant meeting with the United Nations Special Representative for Somalia, Ambassador James Swan, in Mogadishu. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between Somalia and the United Nations in areas of economic development, financial governance, and ongoing reforms.
Minister Bihi, who recently returned to the country after attending the 23rd meeting of the Ministers of Finance of the Horn of Africa Initiative in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, shared insights from the regional forum. During the meeting in Addis Ababa, he was elected as the chairman of the Horn of Africa Initiative for the next two years, an indication to Somalia’s growing influence in regional economic affairs.
The meeting with Ambassador Swan highlighted the importance of international support for Somalia’s financial reforms and development agenda. Minister Bihi emphasized the government’s commitment to improving fiscal transparency, enhancing revenue collection, and fostering economic stability.
Ambassador Swan, on his part, reaffirmed the United Nations’ continued support for Somalia’s efforts to achieve sustainable development and peacebuilding. He praised the progress made by the Somali government in implementing critical reforms and expressed optimism about the country’s future.
This meeting shows the strong partnership between Somalia and the United Nations, as well as Somalia’s active engagement in regional and international economic initiatives.
