Yesterday, a ceremonial farewell reception was orchestrated by the Foreign Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia in Mogadishu, in honor of the delegation from the East African Community, who recently concluded their visit to the Somali capital for an evaluative mission.
The event was attended by an assemblage of dignitaries, including members of the Somali cabinet, leadership from the African Mission in Somalia, and several other prominent government officials.
The Foreign Minister expounded on the significance of the farewell reception, stating, “The purpose of this gathering is to bid adieu to the esteemed delegation from the East African Community, who have successfully completed their evaluation of Somalia’s preparedness to become a member state of the East African Community”.
The delegation, which consisted of more than 40 delegates from various member states of the East African Community, embarked on a 10-day journey to Mogadishu to undertake their assessment mission.
The East African Community is founded on the principles of border tax harmonization, creation of a common market,
monetary integration, and political integration. The delegation, during their sojourn, primarily evaluated the feasibility of a common market and harmonization of taxes.
