Mogadishu, Somalia (SONNA) – The Federal Republic of Somalia has formally taken its seat on the United Nations Security Council. This significant milestone was celebrated in a grand ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Thursday afternoon, marking the commencement of Somalia’s important role within the council.
The ceremony, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters, saw the presence of prominent figures including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, the Permanent Secretary, various Department Directors, and ministry staff.
During his keynote address, Minister Ahmed Fiqi emphasized the significance of Somalia’s membership in the Security Council. He highlighted the rigorous efforts that culminated in this achievement and outlined the key agendas Somalia intends to prioritize during its tenure.
“This marks a historic milestone for Somalia and a prove to our commitment to contributing to global peace and security,” stated Minister Fiqi. “We are determined to make a meaningful impact through our role in the council.”
The Minister extended heartfelt gratitude to the national leaders, led by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and lauded the Somali delegation to the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, the United Nations delegation in New York, and all diplomats and ministry staff for their dedication.
