The defense ministers of Somalia and Turkey met in Ankara on Thursday and signed a historic agreement that aims to boost the security cooperation between the two countries.
The Somali Defense Minister, Mr. Abdiqadir Mohamed Nur, who is on an official visit to Turkey, expressed his gratitude to the Turkish government for its consistent support to the Somali people and government. He said the agreement will enhance the bilateral relations and the stability of the region.
The Turkish Defense Minister, Mr. Yaşar Güler, praised the Somali government for its efforts to combat the Khawarij, a terrorist group that operates in some parts of the country. He said Turkey will continue to provide training and equipment to the Somali armed forces and assist in the reconstruction and development of the country.
The agreement covers various aspects of defense, such as joint military exercises, intelligence sharing, and humanitarian aid. The agreement was signed at the headquarters of the Turkish Ministry of Defense.
The two ministers also discussed the regional and international issues of mutual interest and agreed to work together for peace and security in Africa and beyond.
