Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The bicameral Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia today approved the amendments to chapters 1-4 of the Provincial Constitution, with 253 votes in favour, no votes against, not abstention.
Following weeks of intense debate and contributions from both Parliament members and the public, the initial four chapters have been ratified.
The attendees of the session was 254 Members of the Parliament, with 212 from the Lower-House and 42 from the Upper-House.
The Speaker of the Lower-House of the Parliament announced the result of the amendments of the Constitution.
The amendments of the Constitution’s chapters there are important articles including the changes of the leadership of the country which will move from elections of the MPs to the general population electing their president and then the president appoints the PM.
The amendments also includes reducing the Electoral Committee to 18 members.
