Dhusamareb(SONNA)-Somali National Army’s Commandos unit and US Africa Command on Tuesday morning killed five Al-Shabaab militants and injured others after conducting an operation at an area 35 kilometers south of  Galcad town in Galgudud region under Galmudug State in Somalia.

Deputy Minister of Information of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdirahman Yusuf Adala told Somali National News Agency (SONNA) that the joint forces destroyed the terrorist bases in the area.

He added that the SNA, regional forces, and international partners are committed to eradicating terrorists throughout the country as soon as possible.

The operation comes days before the Government plans to launch the second phase of the total war on the group fighters in the southwest and southern parts of the country.

Yesterday, Somali National Army backed by the Djiboutian Contingent under the African Transition in Somalia foiled terrorist bomb attack at Dab-and Dhagah base near the airport of Bula-burte town in Hiiraan region overnght.

The joint forces successfully destroyed explosives recovered from the militants during the operation according to officials.

SNA-Commander in Hiiraan, Farah Ali Wasage visited Bardhabaq area near Halgan district in the region today after fighting between Al-Shabaab militants and local forces, Macawisley yesterday. He urged the local forces to speed up the uprising against the terrorists, saying the Somali Army would re-enforce them.

These military developments came as the SNA forces are advancing to take control of Ceel-buur and Galhareri town in Galgudud region under Galmudug  State.

“There may be some areas in Hirshabelle and Galmudug States where the Khawarij still hide but the local residents are ready to eliminate them and liberate their homes”, President Hassan said at an event in Dhusamareb town overnight.

The Operation comes as the Somali army and regional forces are heading to the remaining two districts, Ceel-buur and Galhareri town in Galgadud region which are still in the control of the Al-Shabaab.
