The Director General of the Somali Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA), Mr. Ahmed Said Mohamed, met with senior British officials during his official visit to the United Kingdom last week.
The meetings, which took place at the Ministry of Interior, Foreign Affairs, and the Passport Office and the Passport Printing Centre in the UK, aimed to enhance the recognition of Somali passports and to foster bilateral cooperation in the field of immigration.
Mr. Mohamed discussed with his British counterparts the challenges and opportunities facing the Somali immigration sector, and the progress made by the ICA in improving the quality and security of Somali passports.
He also expressed his appreciation for the British government’s support and assistance to the ICA, especially in the areas of training and capacity building for ICA officers.
The British officials commended the ICA for its achievements and reiterated their commitment to continue working with the Somali government to strengthen the immigration system and to facilitate the movement of people between the two countries.
The ICA is the sole authority responsible for issuing Somali passports and managing the immigration and citizenship affairs in Somalia. The ICA has been working to upgrade its services and to enhance its international cooperation with other immigration agencies around the world.
