Somali government warns of floods and storms in parts of the country.

Mogadishu (SONNA)-Wheather forecast has predicted heavy rains for the next seven days in parts of the southern and Northern provinces of the country, SONNA reported.

Heavy rains experienced in Ethiopian highlands are feared to course the rising levels of River Shabelle and Juba, hence could lead to the flooding in towns along the River such as Johar and Beledweyn.

Commercial activities and means of transport is said to be highly affected in Johar region due to the rise of the current level of River shabelle.

The recent summer rains affected Afgoye district and the forecasted rains may affect  it again in the next seven days as the River is said to have raised its level

The sea waves are also forcasted to rise which may cause loss of lives and property to small boat operators and coastal tourist around the sea.

The wheather forcast has also predicted summer storms as the wheather situation constantly changes which brings more fear on the increase of wind speed in the coming days.

The National Multi –Hazard Early Warning Centre (NMHEWC) gave its warnings to diverse communities living along River shabelle and Juba and coastal areas specially fishermen to move away and to be aware of the dangers they face.

The Ministry of Humanitarian and Disaster Management (WG&MM) calls on all local authorities and all aid agencies operating in these areas to be prepared for this new situation and to show support to the coastal and eastern communities.

NMHEWC center is always ready to give updates on wheather changes that actually happen in the country.
