Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali Coast Guard, in collaboration with the European Union Naval Operation in Somalia (EU NAVFOR) known as Operation ATALANTA, has successfully completed a joint exercise with the Spanish warship CANARIAS (F-86) in Somali territorial waters.
The comprehensive training exercise focused on enhancing the Coast Guard’s capabilities in countering piracy and armed robbery at sea. Additionally, the exercise aimed to strengthen measures to prevent the illegal financing of criminal and terrorist networks, which pose a threat to regional stability.
Regular training exercises such as this are crucial for the continuous development of the Police Coast Guard’s operational skills and the overall enhancement of maritime security. The joint exercise was expertly led by the Commander of the Coast Guard, General Bashir Abdi Qasim, and the Commander of the Battleship CANARIAS, Carlos CASTOSA.
The successful completion of this exercise marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to secure the waters off the Somali coast, ensuring safer passage for vessels and contributing to the suppression of illicit activities that have long plagued the region.
