Nairobi, (SONNA) – The Ambassador of Somalia to Kenya attended the first 2025 session of the UN-Habitat Executive Board at the UN-Habitat headquarters in Nairobi. This session is a crucial platform for enhancing oversight, accountability &transparency in urban development efforts worldwide. With global crises challenging our cities
Somalia calls for stronger UN-Habitat engagement in fragile and post-conflict contexts. We urge increased technical assistance to help our cities manage growth, provide adequate housing, and ensure that displaced communities can live in dignity. Capacity building for local governments is particularly crucial, ensuring sustainable urban development.
We strongly support the call for more predictable core funding for UN-Habitat. Countries like Somalia rely on this support to implement sustainable urban development initiatives. Ensuring financial stability will enhance the effectiveness and reach of UN-Habitat’s work.
