Dolow, Gedo Region – In a concerted effort to combat the perennial flooding issue, the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has initiated the second day of sandbag deployment along the Jubba River. This preventive measure is targeted at regions historically susceptible to flooding due to the river’s overflow.
The Deputy Commissioner of Social Affairs for Dolow District, Mr. Abdifitah Ismail, highlighted the significance of SoDMA’s intervention. “This initiative is not just about flood control; it’s a form of charity to our community, ensuring the safety and security of our district,” he remarked.
Residents have welcomed SoDMA’s proactive approach, with one local expressing their heartfelt thanks. “We are deeply grateful for SoDMA’s efforts. Their quick response is instrumental in protecting our homes and families,” said the resident.
The administration’s dedication to disaster preparedness and the well-being of its citizens shows the critical role of agency-community partnerships in mitigating natural disasters. As the sandbag barriers strengthen along the Jubba River, the people of Dolow can rest assured that these measures will help shield them from future floods.
