Nairobi, (SONNA) — The Commissioner of Somalia’s National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, has inaugurated a conference in Nairobi aimed at reducing the risks associated with the ongoing drought in Somalia.
The five-day conference, jointly organized by SoDMA and the African Risk Capacity (ARC), sets the stage for developing a comprehensive drought risk reduction plan. Delegates include SoDMA officials, ARC representatives, and members of START NETWORK, which collaborates closely with SoDMA.
Commissioner Abdulle highlighted that representatives from Somali government institutions — including a delegation from the Federal Parliament and the Ministry of Finance — will join the conference in the coming days.
Somalia became a member of ARC in 2021 after meeting the necessary requirements, and Abdulle noted that the current focus is securing drought-related compensation to support the country’s recovery efforts.
