Nairobi, (SONNA) – The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), alongside Africa Risk Capacity (ARC), has successfully wrapped up a productive five-day conference in Nairobi, Kenya, focused on creating a plan to tackle the ongoing drought threat in Somalia.
ARC has transferred compensation funds to SoDMA to support those affected by climate change, in collaboration with Somali MPs, Somali Ambassador to Kenya, Jibril Ibrahim Abdulle, the Ministry of Finance DG, and international agency representatives.
Commissioner Mohamud Moallim Abdulle noted the severe challenges of climate change in Somalia, with droughts, floods, and resource conflicts leading to an 85% loss in agricultural production. The funding will assist affected communities in recovering from these impacts.
